Your task: Envision your hit

Estimated time: 15 minutes
When you embark on any journey in life, you should know why you’re doing it and where it is that you want to go. Your dream keeps you motivated when you encounter obstacles and fuels your determination to carry on.
In your workbook, reflect on the following:
- Why are you here? Why are you doing Hit Creator?
- What do you expect to accomplish, musically, by the end of this course?
- Spend some time daydreaming. What would you like your musical career to look like in the coming year, five years, and ten years? How would you like to be spending your time and what successes would you like to enjoy?
- Now, set one specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and time-bound goal for yourself (short term). E.g. I would like to compose, produce, release, and promote one song within the next six months.
A word of caution: Make sure that your goal depends on something you can control and that reaching your goal isn’t dependent on something outside your circle of control. For example, don’t set a goal that you want a hundred thousand listens of your song within the first three months. You can’t control whether people listen to your song or not, so that isn’t a goal, it’s a wish.
But you can control how much marketing, promotion, and legwork you do on social media for your song. So you could say that you would like to run advertising campaigns to the value of £50 or post 500 social media posts altogether in the space of three months. That’s a real goal that you can control, and that could drive the outcome you want, which is the hundred thousand listens.
